19SU33 The Magic of Music - A comprehensive cross curricular approach to music in the classroom

The Magic of Music teacher summer course is facilitated by Catherine Dunphy, a qualified teacher at primary and secondary level and an expert at teaching primary music. It covers all strands of the primary curriculum from Junior Infants to Sixth Class with exciting age appropriate modules, unique ideas and clear supporting notes. Catherine also has extensive experience teaching special needs groups and classes and the course will include ideas of how to use music therapy with certain children in an engaging and interesting way. This course is for teachers both with musical experience and knowledge and those who have basic skills only.

The following topics will be covered throughout the week:

 

African music and drumming

 

·         Blues, Jazz, Gospel music using songs/DVD’s/movement/percussion         

·         Rap and Rock Music including use of STOMP rhythm group

·         South American music and Samba drumming

·         Seasonal music for Halloween/Christmas & the 4 seasons including use of soundbeams

·         Music literacy made simple and fun with a full and clear explanation and teaching ideas for the main music notes, chords and musical terms

·         A trip to the NCH for the lunchtime concert

·         Carnival of the animals through songs/dance/games/drama/percussion

·         Peter and the Wolf through Songs/dance/games/drama/percussion
