Due to the nature of our work  as teachers, we all benefit from opportunities to nurture our wellbeing - which can be quite depleted at the end of the year. The combination of personal and professional content in this course ensures an holistic developmental journey enabling participants to reflect with greater clarity on their own wellbeing, that of their pupils and the wider school community. Internationally research proves that mindfulness helps reduce stress, anxiety, exhaustion and increases clarity of thinking, improves our relationship with ourselves and others, our performance at work and our physical and mental health - enhancing our overall wellbeing. To bring mindfulness to children and young people it is necessary to begin with teachers, other school staff and all adults involved in the child’s educational journey.

Through this course participants will be enabled to:

  • learn practical ways to feel calmer and more present in their work and communication

  • Practice guided mindfulness meditations

  • Practice journaling and enquiry as part of mindfulness

  • cultivate compassion for self and others

  • experience ‘in-person’ mindfulness teaching, offering a model for those who go on to teach children/ young people

The course links closely with ‘Well-Being in Primary Schools – Guidelines for Mental Health Promotion’. Schools are now working on consolidating the good practices already in place in their schools and seeking out relevant CPD opportunities, programmes etc. that will build on and complement mental health and wellbeing strategies already in place and enhance the whole school approach.

Included in this residential course:

- very comfortable accommodation (shared)

- meals

- guided walks [e.g. Killeen Loop Walk, level: easy, both circa 6km]

- opportunity for digital detox

- max 10 participants

- venue is only 2 km from Cross Beach (nice walk),  9km from Louisburgh, 9km from Silver Strand, 9km from 'The Lost Valley',  27km to Leenane
