19SPR09 Promoting Children’s Wellbeing through Voice and Relationships

Schools and teachers have always been concerned about children’s wellbeing and this focus is being given increased emphasis in curriculum revisions at primary level.  The Aistear Framework (2009) focuses on “children’s relationships and interactions, and their ability to express themselves” (Tynan and Nohilly 2018), and these aspects are continued throughout primary education. This workshop will explore key aspects of children’s wellbeing in the classroom, particularly in relation to empowering their voice and enhancing their relationships within and outside the classroom context. This workshop will affirm teachers in what they are already doing and provide practical ideas for all levels in the primary school.

Facilitator: Dr. Bernie Collins is a well-known teacher educator in St. Patrick’s Campus, DCU, where she lectures in SPHE.
