A balanced approach, was designed and intended to support the national literacy and numeracy strategy 2011 by sharing effective evidence-based approaches and practices. It is drawn from material researched and published in the last fifteen years. Over the course of three sessions we aim to cover:
- An Overview of the balanced approach to literacy development in the early years
- An insight in how we could prevent reading failure, -looking at word reading strategies.
- Using written communication during the early years and assessment for teaching.
- Teachers development,
- Professional development and self-reflective practice.
The focus is on explicit instruction and providing the time to practice according to the need of the individual.
